When it comes to fun, inventive painting techniques, colors, and styles, one designer has led the charge for decades: Annie Sloan. The inventor of Chalk Paint, one of the craftiest accessories for any home, and she just released a new collection full of paint colors, metallic finishes, and polished plaster.
The durable, water-based metallic paints launched on October 10 and come in a 16-fluid-ounce size for $36 each. You can choose from three different golden shades: traditional gold, modern gold, and rose gold.
Sloan recommends using the paint “to add a metallic ‘touch’ to furniture, walls, or architrave.”
“Use one coat to give a translucent shimmer or two coats for a lustrous opaque shine,” Sloan said in a press release. “Apply Annie Sloan Metallic Paints thickly, then use a clean brush or cloth to make patterns.”
According to Elle Decor, metallic design is making its way from the runway into our homes after shows at Paris Design Week put everything from aluminum bedsheets to metallic ashtrays on display. If you want to give something in your home a fresh design touch without buying a new furniture set, consider painting one of your favorite items with Sloan's new collection.
You can get creative in the way you decorate with metallics, and because it's a neutral accent, metal works with just about any design—whether you're going fully modern or adding a juxtaposing element to a coastal grandmother space. It also adds a sense of sophistication and polish to your home.
If you're not into metallics but still want to incorporate a fun textural element, check out Sloan’s new Polished Plaster—a water-based paste that creates a decorative finish for walls and furniture (also available as 16-fluid ounces for $36).

“Use Polished Plaster to recreate the look of traditional Moroccan tadelakt plaster, authentic rustic Italian walls, or the shine of marble,” Sloan said in a press release. “Polished Plaster can be applied as is or mixed with Chalk Paint to create colored finishes."
When mixing, apply more Chalk Paint to make the finish more opaque and matte. Use a scraper, palette knife, or trowel to apply Polished Plaster and spread it around in all directions. Once it's fully dry, you can buff the plaster with a clean scraper or trowel to make it smoother and shinier.
If you’re looking for an additional set of colors to pair with the Polished Plaster or Metallic Paints, Sloan is releasing three striking shades on October 30: Capability Green, Paprika Red, and Frida Blue. You can buy all the new colors and textures online at anniesloan.com.
