While each major name in the paint industry comes out with their own unique Color of the Year, blue has proven a common favorite for 2024—and Dunn-Edwards Color of the Year is no exception. Skipping Stones (DET567) joins Upward (SW 6239) by Sherwin Williams, Renew Blue (8003-37D) by Valspar, and Bluebird by Krylon for this year's chosen paint shade.
Described by Dunn-Edwards in a press release as a "serene and steely blue with hints of green and gray," Skipping Stones is meant to balance tranquility and stimulation. While it has cooler undertones, it guarantees to provide a soothing, warm quality to any space.
"Skipping Stones feels like a daydream and can add a sense of mystery and thoughtfulness to any space," DeMing Carpenter, color expert at Dunn Edwards, said in a statement. "It's part of the resurgence of blue and represents a shift away from the bold, warm-toned colors we've seen gain popularity over the past few years."
The brand also created six new palettes featuring their 2024 Color of the Year. Nature inspires the New Dawn selection; the shades "create space for quiet reflection amidst the chaos of an always-on world." If you want to try out color drenching, go for the Moody Monochrome palette. There's even an Ode to Mermaidcore option, embracing the dreamy, seaside energy of the trend.
You can think of Skipping Stones as a neutral, much like your favorite denim dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Pair it with white trim for a bright, contemporary look, or add it in a room with dark wood floors for a more traditional feel. Use a deep burgundy, like Burnt Crimson (DEC703), or soft beige, like Dunn-Edwards Almond (DEC735), to play up the Southwestern influence behind the hue.
To style your Skipping Stones-painted space, Dunn-Edwards has a selection of accessories in their Color of the Year shop, available for a limited time. Get ideas for decorating with blue or ideas to create a space where relaxation and recharging are part of your daily routine.
