Let’s face it—nobody likes folding throw blankets. They’re large, unwieldy, and an extra chore tacked onto the dreaded end-of-day tidy up. You know and love the blanket ladder hack, a simple way to store your blankets, adding a focal point to your living room and letting you avoid just a bit of folding. But the newest, most stylish blanket hack is here—meet blanket walls.
Blanket walls are taking over TikTok, with the draped and casual blanket storage solution garnering over 380 million views. TikTok user Kaitlyn Mackenzee Corbin seems to have led the trend's growth—her very own aesthetic blanket wall has been watched 3.4 million times. With several blankets hung on hooks like coats, Corbin created a personal and functional way to display her collection.
“Not having to fold my blankets >>>,” she wrote in the video’s caption. “This blanket wall is my new favorite spot in my home, it's so practical and also makes the room feel so much cozier.”
The video’s gained plenty of enthusiastic comments about the hack, with one user saying it’s changed her opinion of blanket ladders: “I wanted a ladder blanket holder but this is a complete PLOT TWIST!!! I totally love this!!”
But, as always with TikTok, there were a few skeptics. "My cats will love this new wall climbing feature,” one wrote. A different commenter noted that the hack probably wouldn’t work well with toddlers in the house—it’s definitely worth keeping pets and kids in mind before styling a blanket wall of your own.
If you opt for this clever storage idea, keep your blankets coordinated: Choose colors already featured in the room and add interest with varying textures and patterns. If you can, keep a collection of blankets that are all the same size to keep the display from looking sloppy, and check periodically to make sure they aren't gathering dust if you're not using them often.
Professional interior designers have mixed opinions of blanket walls, with some all for the trend and others who have a few criticisms—these say this type of blanket storage can be hard to get right.
“There is a fine line between cozy and sloppy, and you do not want your living room to look like a locker room,” Houston-based designer Mary Patton told House Beautiful.
But Sara Malek Barney of BANDD/DESIGN told the publication that the blanket wall could just be the next best thing in blanket storage, blending comfy with functional.
"After a few years of cuddling up with bouclé, it's no surprise the super cozy blanket wall is a trend," she said.
Hanging blankets on hooks isn't the only way to display them on the walls, of course—over the course of history, blankets from antique tapestries to handmade quilts have been used to decorate walls, and can even be treasured collector's items. Artists continue to create unique pieces in the form of blankets that are meant for display (and not so much for napping).
However, if you're on a budget and need a big wall decorated, just about any blanket can be transformed into a piece of art, as TikTok creator @annilibull shared in another genius hack. You’ll have your decor needs covered with just a beautiful throw, a wooden frame, some precise folding skills, and a staple gun—bundle away.
