Goodbye, Vanilla Girl Summer. Hello, Caramel Girl Fall

Time to pack up the bright whites of summer and introduce the warm caramel tones of autumn.

With the dog days of summer long behind us, it's time to officially usher in autumn and all the decor that comes with it (if you haven't already). Vanilla girl aesthetic had its time to shine, full of bright whites and creams, but caramel girl aesthetic is ready for its moment. And don't worry, this fall decor trend doesn't have any gore or gaud—just timeless staples that can be used around the home year-round.

What Are The Vanilla and Caramel Girl Aesthetics in Home Decor?

Seen often in fashion and beauty trends, vanilla girl aesthetic is full of soft whites and creams—whether it be in clothing, perfume, accessories, etc. Many took the same ideas and used them when decorating a room at home, incorporating these brighter neutrals in any way possible.

Sarah Tract, Founder of Sarah Tract Interiors in NYC, gives us her own take on the decor trends. Tract notes that the vanilla girl aesthetic offers a zen touch with its neutrality but isn't too minimal.

"You can lean into neutrals and creams without the space being boring. By adding texture and multiple elements in the same tone, you are aiding the idea of layering yet creating a light and airy touch throughout the space."

The vanilla girl trend is perfect for summer—with the radiant sun and bright blue skies and waters, white is the ideal backdrop for the vivid colors of the season. But as we usher in the cooler and slightly drearier days of fall, it only makes sense to alter our space's ambiance as well.

Similar to vanilla girl aesthetic with its strong use of neutrals, caramel girl aesthetic differs from it with its slightly richer tones.

"I think this includes a similar concept of vanilla but with a touch of darker, warmer tones. While still layering pieces, you create a comfortable space that brings in cozy elements yet is still sophisticated and clean."

How To Transition From Vanilla Girl to Caramel Girl This Fall

Decorating for fall doesn't have to be complex. You don't even need pumpkins (although, always a special touch if you do). Seasonal decor doesn't always need to be literal and obvious; sometimes, the swap of a few everyday items can set the scene just as much as bright orange wreaths and smiley scarecrows.

Tract recommends exchanging brighter and cooler-toned items with caramel-toned, warmer items. Even shades of greens and reds can beautifully accompany browns and beiges. Don't stress if your walls are light, even a stark white. Choosing warm items to style and place around the room will still make it cozy.

"Switch out your pillows and throws for some new textured and layered elements in browns and camels tones. Maybe even throw in some green and burgundy accessories to give that 'fall vibes' flare," Tract says.
