Imagine the most charming store, brimming with every type of creation you could think of—from handmade Christmas tree ornaments to custom-designed furniture—that’s what everybody loves about Etsy. For its first-ever Spring and Summer Trend Guide, the e-commerce site is sharing its forecasts for what will be at the top of its over 90 million shoppers' wish lists. Among the categories Etsy predicts you'll see everywhere in home design, fashion, and food are Western 2.0 (thank you, Beyonce!) and, with the Olympics heading to Paris, a big dose of sports-core.
“One of the most magical things about Etsy is the way our vibrant creator community shapes trends before they hit the mass market," said Dayna Isom Johnson, Etsy’s resident trend expert. "With the freedom to experiment, innovate, and adapt in real-time, our sellers craft and curate fresh designs to stay ahead of the cultural curve through their unique and often one-of-a-kind finds.”

Chef’s Kiss
Food is love, and it evokes some of the most passionate and loyal fans in pop culture, whether it's a favorite restaurant or competition TV show.
As shoppers embrace food-themed clothes and home decor and discover new favorite recipes for family-style dinners and mocktails, there’s a resounding Yes, Chef!” echoing across the country. Examples of this skyrocketing trend include increased searches over last year for espresso martini candles (+1,454%), pasta prints (39%), and chef’s coats (257%).

Garden Girl
The 2024 may be the year of the flower, based on the increased use of botanical wallpapers, upholstery fabrics, and floral prints in fashion. And though flowers combined with spring and summer isn’t a groundbreaking idea, it’s how florals are being used and shopped for that’s fresh on Etsy. Gardening is a top category on the website, with searches for gardening accessories up 390% over 2023. But it’s not just in the garden where florals are picking up fans. Floral birthstone jewelry searches are up by 150%, and floral blankets are also picking up interest (up 231%).
Time-Honored Textiles
Embroidery has returned to home decor, and Etsy shoppers are inspired by all things quilted, patchwork, and otherwise customized for home decor, clothing, and accessories. Sophisticated shoppers are looking for old-school ideas with a modern twist, including vintage-feeling quilted jackets (63% increase in searches) and crocheted pillows. This isn’t a remake of your grandmother’s crocheting or needlework, either—it’s a revamping.

We know TikTok has no shortage of trends ever, but Etsy users are looking for ways to escape social media and star in their own lives instead of watching others. Creating the coziest, most personalized space is a start. Gallery walls, floating shelves, slipcovered sofas (searches for linen couch covers are up by 351%), and colorful rugs all contribute to creating a space where any of the characters on Friends would feel right at home.
