The rug has two parts: a rug cover and a cushioned rug pad that comes divided into sections that connect like a jigsaw puzzle. We found the rug pad very effective and a key factor in making the rug non-slip from all angles. It added an ideal amount of cushion and felt soft underfoot.
We were impressed by how easy it was to clean in our testing lab, so we were excited to try it out at home too. After six months of use, the rug remained in good condition and we noted that out of all the rugs we'd had in our home previously, this was by far the easiest to clean.
This rug was used placed under barstools and walked on every day. Our cat rolled on it often and even had a few accidents as well. Despite the rug being thin, its ability to repel liquid was impressive. The wine and coffee that we poured on during lab testing did not soak through—we were able to blot it all out with a paper towel. Beyond that, it features an abstract design that hides stains well.
We tested this option at home for six months and it still looked good after experiencing heavy foot traffic. We only had to wash it a few times throughout the testing period but each time we did it looked good as new. This pick is quite thin, but it didn't seem to impact its quality.

The Ruggable Kamran Rug checked out all our boxes, proving to be a durable, stain-resistant, and attractive option. The rug is low-pile consisting of dense tight-woven fibers, yet it’s soft and cushy to the point that we felt that we wouldn't have been able to open and close a door over it.
We used this rug at home for six months and overall, we thought it held up quite well. We washed it a few times and it came out perfectly, which is ideal if your kitchen is prone to spills and other messes.
In our testing lab, we performed a stain test with red wine and coffee and were blown away by how much we could remove by blotting with a paper towel and cleaning solution. None of the liquids soaked through to the bottom layer of the rug.
While using this pick at home, our cat clawed at it quite a bit and many of the threads on the border came out. That being said, this may not be the best pick for homes with pets. Otherwise, we didn't see a change in quality through the testing period.

The Safavieh Crystal Collection Runner is a nice, inexpensive rug to protect your hardwood floor in a hallway or narrow kitchen area. The rug is low-pile and features a slightly ribbed texture that’s easy to clean.
The rug performed well in lab testing: we were able to suck up all the coffee grounds, and out of all the rugs we stain-tested with chocolate syrup, the Safavieh fared the best. We were also able to remove almost all of the syrup with just a paper towel and some cleaning solution.
We used this at home for six months with small children and it did not disappoint. The rug experienced stains that were easily removed and thanks to its weight, it didn't roll up either. We vacuumed this pick regularly and it cleaned well, which we think bodes well for crumbs and other messes in a kitchen.

While the Lahome Washable Area Rug is not non-slip, it includes a rug pad to hold it firmly in place. However, even with the rug pad, it was a little slippery, especially if we walked on it with bare feet.
We used this pick in our home for six months and it was able to stand up against the messes our young child made. We found it particularly easy to spot clean when needed, which was great since it was a bit too big and bulky to wash in our washing machine.
The rug scored high marks for stain removal. Both the wine and coffee we used in the testing lab beaded on the rug’s surface, making it easy to blot the stains. Though we used a liquid cleaner to remove the stains, we think they would have come up just as well with a dry paper towel.
It also did fairly well in our lab abrasion tests; there were no signs of shedding, although the pile did get fluffier, giving it a pleasantly shaggy appearance. However, the soil did not come up completely when we vacuumed the rug and left some dark traces behind.

It’s an excellent kitchen rug for accidental spills. We saw first-hand how stain-resistant it was during lab testing when we subjected it to a variety of wet and dry debris. Wine and coffee immediately beaded on the surface and would only penetrate deeper if we rubbed it in.
During six months of home testing, this rug was able to stand up to frequent foot traffic. We washed it a few times and it didn't lose its shape. We also like that the corners didn't lift after being washed and the texture was still good as well.
While the coffee stains we applied in the lab still showed after initial blotting, with several more passes they eventually faded. Additionally, the vacuum managed to suck up all the potting soil.

The Rifle Paper Joliette Power-Loomed Rug features a subtle floral design that can easily blend with different types of kitchen decor. The rug is low pile, which means it’s easy to maintain and quite durable—a plus for high-traffic areas like the kitchen.
To test stain resistance in the lab, we used red wine and coffee grounds. About 80% of the wine stains came out, and the rug’s dark color and design hid the rest. The vacuum easily lifted the coffee grounds without sucking up lint and fibers from the rug.
This rug's durability was further proven during six months of testing it at home. It looked good as new after being vacuumed several times and it didn't experience any damage. It also didn't collect dirt and cat hair easily, so we think it would do well in a kitchen with debris.

After six months of use at home, this pick still looked as good as new. We didn't notice any shedding and were pleasantly surprised at how well it stayed in place. The rug didn't experience many stains or spills during testing, but we were able to easily clean it up easily when we needed to.
Because the material does not handle moisture well (don’t put it in a washer), we didn’t conduct the liquid stain tests in our testing lab. Instead, we relied on the coffee grounds to see how easy it was to clean. While the vacuum did suck up the coffee, it lifted some of the rug’s material as well. However, we vacuumed it at home and didn't experience any issues.
