Depending on your under-bed space, the containers may stick out a bit.

Storage containers with fabric sides can sometimes be unstructured, which may be less desirable if you’re using them to store clothes — if the soft sides move around, clothes are likely to wrinkle. So we were delighted that the StorageLAB Underbed Storage Containers, which have fabric sides made from a polyester blend, were firm, sturdy, and maintained their shape.

The plastic top is soft and flexible, which allows the container to expand to accommodate bulkier items, like sweaters and jackets, without compressing them too much. Overall, we liked that the containers were structured in certain places and flexible in others.

In addition to its quality construction, these fabric containers scored points for their roomy capacity. During testing, we were able to fit more than half of our clothes inside. We appreciated that the containers expanded easily so we could fit more, even if it was a bit bulkier on top.

Opening and closing the containers was easy, too. The zipper feels well-made and durable and never snagged on the clothes inside. We accessed the containers frequently during the test period and were pleased that no damage occurred to the container or their floors, and that the overall product maintained its integrity. We also noted that the clothes seemed fresh even after being stored for some time.

Although we highly recommend these containers, you should be sure to measure the space under your bed first before purchasing them. We didn’t measure and found that the containers poked out from the bed a bit. Depending on the available space under your bed, you might prefer the brand’s low-profile version of these containers.

It’s not spacious enough for lots of bulky clothes or blankets, and we thought that the zipper was a little flimsy.

The Better Homes and Gardens Rolling Under Bed Zippered Storage Bin is one of the best under-bed storage solutions for those looking for a less expensive option. We liked the overall design, including the gray fabric sides and the clear plastic top, which allowed us to instantly see what was inside.

During testing, we stored several blankets inside, which came out fresh, clean, and without any bugs or dust. We noted that there was a little dust on the plastic covering, so we knew it was doing its job.

We were particularly pleased with the wheels on this bin, which are discreetly located on the base. The wheels glided smoothly and easily on the hard surface, and we appreciated not having to tug on the container to fish it out from beneath the bed.

The wheels continued to work nicely over time and the base of the container maintained its integrity since it wasn’t rubbing against the floor. Also good: There are two side handles that are reinforced with metal. They felt nice and sturdy and made it easy to lift the bin to carry, as well as pull it out from under the bed.

The biggest downside, in our opinion, was the quality of the zippers, which we found to be a bit difficult to open and close. We were hesitant to pull too firmly on them, especially around the corners, and fearful that packing the bin too tightly would rip the zipper entirely.

The plastic covering, while nice and soft, also feels a little flimsy and not like it would necessarily last years. The base of the storage unit is fabric, and we worried about how it would hold up over time. However, we felt that as long as you don’t pack it too tightly and are careful when zipping and unzipping, these storage bins are an excellent value and work as promised.

Though well-made, the canvas is on the thin side.

While these Amazon Basics Under Bed Fabric Storage Container Bags don’t exactly have a sturdy-looking appearance — unlike many of the other containers and bins on this list, these are vinyl bags with no firm surfaces — they’re versatile, expandable, and work well for clothing storage. During testing, we found that they have a lot of space to store multiple items of clothing with ease.

We were able to get more clothing in these bags than expected, and everything fit comfortably. The bags are simple to open and close (the top unzippers and is clear, so you can easily see what’s inside) and the fabric is soft, flexible, and fits nicely under a bed. There are also canvas side handles, which make it easy to pull out.

During the testing period, we removed and added clothing a few times a week. Though there are no wheels on the bottom, we didn’t note any damage to the base during this time, and the canvas, though thin, didn’t feel flimsy or like it would rip easily. The zippers worked well, and we felt that our clothes were safe and protected.

The bags are sold in a set of two and are one of the least expensive storage solutions on this list, too. Just keep in mind that although the canvas felt strong enough, we noted that these may not be the most durable long-term option.

Because there are dividers, the storage options are more limited.

At first glance, we didn’t think that the Anyoneer Under Bed Shoe Storage Organizer offered much in terms of capacity. But these sturdy fabric organizers ended up holding more than we thought they would, making them one of the best under-bed storage solutions to consider.

We were able to fit 12 sweatshirts in four stacks of three inside, as well as eight pairs of shoes. In particular, we loved these containers for shoe storage thanks to the built-in dividers, all of which are adjustable. We liked that we could adjust the spacing for the type of shoe (heels versus flats) and didn’t have to fit it into a predefined space. All of the dividers have firm, elastic sides so they won’t be crushed by shoes and will protect all items inside.

We found the top easy to zip and unzip, but we did note that they needed to fully remove the organizer from under the bed to open it properly. Since this option doesn't have much height, we thought the zip could snag or get stuck on the cloth material inside if it was too full.

The zipper also didn’t seem to be the most durable: It got a bit stuck in the corners at times and the cloth pull started to fray after only a few uses, which we found disappointing.

Finally, while the contents didn’t feel unsafe, we weren’t sure we’d use it in a basement prone to leaking or anywhere it might be snagged, such as in the vicinity of pets. Although our cat didn’t scratch at the organizer during testing, the sides and the bottom did seem like they could snag and rip easily. That said, we would still recommend these organizers for shoe storage in a safe space as well as to stack in a closet or under a taller bed.

The fabric is a little on the thin side, and there are mesh vents in the corners.

If you’re looking for an organizer that’s roomy enough to hold a substantial amount of clothing, the IKEA Skubb Storage Case is the best under-bed storage solution for you. This pick emerged as one of the highest-scoring under-bed organizers in our testing, in part due to its roomy capacity, but also because it’s so easy to use and durable-feeling.

This organizer is sleek and simple-looking, with rigid recycled polyester sides and a flexible top. We were able to fit a decent amount of clothing inside, including 15 pairs of socks, three tank tops, three long-sleeved shirts, three pullovers, and five thicker vests. It bulged a bit at the top after being zipped, but we still found it easy to open and close.

While we felt that the fabric was very thin and a little flimsy, we were still pleasantly surprised with how durable this container seemed. The zipper didn’t show signs of ripping, even as it was packed with clothing, and the fabric sides felt more secure than a soft-sided bag. We also appreciated the straps (there are three), which made it easier to pull the container out from under a bed.

Crucially, we also didn’t notice any musty smells after opening the bag, perhaps due to the small mesh vents in the corners to help keep clothing ventilated. We appreciate this feature, but if you’re in the market for truly air-tight storage, know that this wouldn’t be the right product for you.

This is a fabric organizer, but it’s not as unstructured as other fabric products, we noted. It held its shape well and felt pretty sturdy compared to similar products. But although it’s well-made overall, we did say we’d perhaps change the fabric to something a little thicker.

Because it’s fabric, it may not protect your clothing against spills.

Whether you don’t need to store much or are working with a smaller space (such as under a twin or daybed), the Brightroom Underbed Fabric Bin is a good solution. Made of light gray fabric, it’s a nice-looking storage container that’s easily accessible, thanks to side handles and a bottom that glides seamlessly.

Although it’s quite compact, we were able to fit more clothes inside this container than we originally thought we could, mainly a mix of tops, socks, and pajamas (we estimated about 20 shirts, 10 pairs of socks, and two pairs of pajamas fit inside). Due to its smaller size, we thought this was one of the best options for smaller clothing items (socks, underwear, T-shirts) rather than bulkier sweaters or jackets.

Some storage containers that are made of fabric can be tougher to pull out from under a bed, but not this one. We found it very easy to move from under the bed and loved that even though there were no wheels, it didn’t damage our floors. The material felt fairly durable, we added, and we didn’t notice any damage to the bottom during the testing period even after using it frequently. We’re unsure how the fabric would hold up against spills, but we didn’t experience any issues during testing.

It’s also very easy to open and close: Simply pull out the storage container and lift the lid where it naturally bends in half (this means you don’t have to fully pull it out from under the bed to access it, a nice perk). The lid closed tightly and we felt reassured that everything was secure inside. At the end of the testing period, all of their clothing appeared fresh and free of lint, dust, or bugs. We also liked that you could easily open just one side of the lid, making it easy to access just what we needed.

It wasn’t easy to push these containers along a carpeted floor.

Not only does the NestNeatly SmartCube Under Bed Storage Bag easily fold up when not in use, but it was one of the best products we tested for its capacity. We were able to fit about 50 extra-large T-shirts inside. We noted that they fit comfortably, and because the sides are fabric we felt that we could have easily added more.

These bags are sold in packs of three, and we thought they all would comfortably fit under a bed together. The containers have soft fabric sides and clear tops, so you can see what’s inside without unzipping it. And though there are no wheels, there’s a handle on one end to help make it easier to pull out.

We found these easy to open and close, with a zipper that glided easily and didn’t snag on the fabric. The sides, though fabric, feel reasonably sturdy. We only needed to access the bags twice during the testing period, but we didn’t sustain any damage during this time.

Note that this is an unstructured organizer with a baggy shape, so it’s not the best under-bed storage option for clothes that you wouldn’t want to be wrinkled. We ended up storing some old t-shirts that we don’t wear often and appreciated that they were out of our dresser drawers.

Because the sides are so soft, we did find that these containers were a little harder to push under a bed, especially if you have carpet in your bedroom. We noted that rigid sides and a silkier fabric on the bottom would help make it easier to use push and pull out.

It’s not airtight, as opposed to some other options we tested.

Made of handwoven seagrass and wicker, the Pottery Barn Savannah Handwoven Seagrass Lidded Underbed Basket is undeniably one of the more beautiful under-bed storage options on this list. Not only would you be proud for it to peek out from under a bed, but the lid means your clothes or linens will remain hidden if it does.

At home, we used this for storing blankets. We were able to fit six inside (most of them smaller and thin) and thought that since it’s so wide, we could have squeezed in a few more. Although the basket is wide, it’s not super tall and the lid puts a limit on how much you can fit inside — for this reason, thinner linens are better than chunky blankets, we noted.

Using this basket is quite easy as the lid just lays on top, and there are a couple of areas with a bracket that help keep it in place. This is a nice feature, we noted, since unlike many plastic under-bed storage containers, there’s no “snap” lid that requires you to pull the entire thing out to access what’s inside.

The fact that the lid lays so loosely is nice for storing blankets, but you may prefer something a little more airtight and secure for delicate clothing items like sweaters or silks.

Overall, we found this basket to be very durable even though it’s made of wicker. We thought it was versatile, too, and in the future, we might use it to store Legos or other toys. Our only complaint was the price: it’s much more expensive than other options on this list, and we thought it was a bit pricey for something that sits under a bed.

Though the wheels are a nice feature, they limit storage in the corners of the container.

The Rubbermaid Under the Bed Wheeled Storage Box may be your typical plastic storage box, but after testing, we felt that it’s a high-quality one. We used this pick to store a mix of linens, shoes, and clothing and felt that it was a great option to make use of under-bed storage space.

We found this container very sturdy and easy to use. We didn’t have any issues opening and closing it, and especially liked that it can be opened halfway on each side or take the top off completely — this makes it easy to access the interiors when pulling it only halfway out from under the bed for example. The lid snaps easily, and all of their clothing was fresh and protected from damage during the testing period. There was no damage to our rug, either.

The wheels are a nice-to-have feature, but we found them frustrating at times. While we were able to slide it easily under the bed, we didn’t think the wheels contributed much. We would have preferred if the box did not have wheels because it took away from storage space in each corner. We were unable to store boxes or things of that nature in those areas of the box because the wheels are built in.

It’s a bit more expensive than some other similar styles but there aren’t many standout features.

With its clear plastic and snap-on lid, the Sterilite Clear View Underbed Storage Bin is another classic under-bed storage container. We found it to be particularly spacious and were able to fit two pairs of sneakers and six pairs of chunky boots inside.

As far as plastic under-bed bins go, this one is basic but simple to use. We liked that it was easy to open and close, as all we had to do was unlock the handle clasps to remove the lid. We also appreciated the wheels, which made the process of pushing and pulling the container smooth, and we noted the wheels never got stuck.

We placed another bin on top of this one during the testing period, and the lid did get some scratches as a result. It was opened at least once a day and proved to be sturdy and durable, thanks to the thick plastic. We felt that our shoes were safe and protected. The clasp handles stayed shut while stored, and we didn’t notice any dust, dirt, or bugs.

Overall, we were happy with this container, particularly the relatively affordable price tag, the addition of the wheels, and the spacious interior. But we did note that it’s pretty basic and doesn’t have any particularly impressive features, which may make someone think twice the price.

They’re thin, so they might be prone to damage more easily than others.

Thanks to the soft fabric sides, we were able to fit a lot of clothing in the StorageRight Storage Bins. They’re well-designed, with a handy front “window” (you can easily peek inside to remind yourself of the contents), side handles, and a spacious interior. They are also very flexible, we noted, which makes it easy to fit a wide variety of items.

These storage bins are easy to use: The soft fabric slides easily on carpet, and the zippers work well, we found. We also liked that It’s very easy to zip/unzip them, and we never had an issue with the zippers becoming stuck. All of our clothing remained fresh during the testing period, even as we opened and closed the bins a few times.

The soft fabric is nice for squeezing in lots of clothes, but these aren’t the sturdiest storage options. We felt that if they got caught on a sharp edge, we would expect the fabric to rip because it's very thin. However, if you're only using them for under-bed storage and not pulling them out often, the material should be fine, we added.

Though we thought this set was reasonably priced, we did think the online images were a little misleading. While we expected them to be a bit more structured, they're made with a more flimsy fabric, and the corners aren't structured at all.
