The 2024 Design Trend You Have to Try Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Looking to refresh your space this year? Check in with the stars to determine the energy you should channel.

Just as 2024 has taken off faster than you can blink, new home trends and aesthetics are popping up at the same rapid rate. It’s out with the old and in with the new—and whether this means that you're ditching old habits and (somewhat) stick to your resolutions, crossing off old goals in favor of new ones, or trying out a new aesthetic, it's never too late to press reset on the metaphorical button of your life.

If you're looking to rediscover your style or make your home feel more like you this year but don’t know where to start, your astrological birth chart can point you in the right direction. In the same way that the zodiac sheds light on your personality traits, strengths, and weaknesses, it can also help to determine the interior design trend you may be most drawn to.

We spoke to professional astrologer Natalia Benson to get her insight on which style fits best with each sign's traits, and why. Here is the 2024 design trend you should try (and be sure to check your sun, moon, and rising!).

Aries (March 21-April 19): Minimalism

As an energetic fire sign, Aries are known for being bold, ambitious, charismatic, and passionate in all areas of life. They appreciate efficiency and directness and are easily frustrated by frivolous details. If you're an Aries looking to refresh your home in 2024, Benson recommends leaning into minimalism and the clean girl aesthetic. This "less is more" design trend is all about creating spaces that are organized, calm, and purposeful, which is a great fit for this dynamic fire sign.

“Minimalism creates the spaciousness—especially mentally—that every Aries needs,” Benson says. “Removing unnecessaries and focusing on only things you absolutely love inside your space is a must to creating more mental bandwidth and creativity.”

Taurus (April 20-May 20): Modern Rustic

Taurus is an earth sign known for being hard working, stubborn, and loyal. They enjoy spending time in calm, serene spaces where they're surrounded by pleasant sounds, aromas, and flavors. They have an eye for the finer things, in every sense—as such, Benson says that you should go for a design style that addresses both the grounded and effortlessly luxurious nature of this fixed earth sign.

“Modern rustic is an earthy yet luxe design style that pairs the grounded essence of Taurus, with the luxurious creativity of its ruling planet Venus," she says. "Taureans crave consistency and order paired with beauty, and this design style does just that."

Gemini (May 21-June 20): Dopamine Decor

You can count on Geminis to bring on the playful, intellectually curious, social, and creative energy. Represented by the celestial twins, it's often said this air sign needed to double itself in order to pursue all of its passions and creative projects. According to Benson, Geminis thrive in spaces that are just as creative and engaging as they are.

“Gemini has an active mind filled with powerful ideas," she says. "Think anything Kelly Wearstler: fanciful, unique, [eclectic]. Anything that can ignite visual curiosity to incite conversations is perfect for this mutable sign."

Bright colors, unique pairings, quirky accents, and plenty of playful touches are the way to go for this air sign, which is why the dopamine decor trend is right up their alley.

Cancer (June 21-July 22): Coastal Grandmother

Cancer is a water sign represented by the crab. They're intuitive, emotional, and often guarded—just like their hard-shelled celestial spirit animals. For this mutable sign, Benson says that spaces should be filled with calming tones, personal mementos, and cozy details, and coastal grandmother captures that essence perfectly.

“Watery Cancer represents holding the energy of the past, and when it comes to design and their home, meaningful collectibles and washed out beach tones are soothing and balancing for this emotional cardinal sign,” she says.

Leo (July 23-August 22): Jazz Aesthetic

Represented by the celestial lion, Leos are passionate, loyal, courageous, and ambitious—with a flair for the dramatics. They are also fiercely loving and protective of their closest friends and family. Not one to fade into the background, this fire sign loves all things lavish and luxe.

“Leos are the queens and kings of bold self expression," Benson says. "Mixing older, meaningful pieces with brand new [pieces], paired with bold tones give them a sense that home really is where the heart is."

As such, the newly revived jazz aesthetic is one that Leos are sure to love. Characterized by moody color schemes, glamorous details, vintage accents, and individuality, it's an ideal fit for this fiery sign.

Virgo (August 23-September 22): Functional Decor

Virgos are all about logic, attention to detail, and practicality. That said, this mutable earth sign is also known for its incredibly kind and humble nature. They're quick thinkers that possess incredible intellect and a hard-working disposition. According to Benson, this trademark practicality and attention to detail extends beyond the Virgo personality and into their homes.

“Quiet luxury meets earthy practicality is the hallmark of this mutable earth sign," she says. "If it contains form and function, as well as style and aesthetic, it’s sure to make its way into the home of this Mercury-ruled sign."

As such, the no-nonsense appeal that the functional decor trend offers was basically made for Virgos.

Libra (September 23-October 22): Curved Furniture

Libra is a cardinal air sign that cherishes balance, harmonious relationships, and beauty. With their exquisite, high-end tastes, Libras always have their thumb on the pulse of all things aesthetic and seek to surround themselves with beauty in all areas of life. Fittingly, these fashionistas may be considered the "designers" of the zodiac signs.

“Curves, airy features, and anything luxe are the epitome of the Libran’s design palette," Benson says. "A Libra is a design leader, often setting the trends of the time, not following them.”

The stylish and high-end curved furniture trend is well-suited to this air sign (but they already knew that).

Scorpio (October 23-November 21): Dark and Moody

You probably know when you meet a Scorpio—they're incredibly passionate, intelligent, enigmatic, and emotional, with strong ties to the psychic and emotional realm.

“This fixed water sign embraces bold yet practical design tastes and isn’t opposed to exploring unique patterns, depth, and meaning in any of their style choices,” Benson says. According to her, this mysterious and soulful sign is drawn to dark and moody interiors.

The good news for Scorpios who are looking to change up their home this year is that moody interiors are having a moment. There's truly no shortage of dark and moody trends to choose from—whether you want to embrace a particular aesthetic (whimsigoth, the vampire aesthetic, or dark Americana) or transform your space with a moody paint color.

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21): Vintage Home Decor

“Sagittarians rule all things adventure and a unique interest in anything outside of their place of origin,” Benson says. This fire sign is distinctive in the zodiac world and is best-known for its curiosity, passion, adaptability, and thirst for knowledge and adventure.

A Sagittarius will feel most at home in a space that reflects their wanderlust and creative spirit.

“Expect an expansive take on typical design—thanks to their ruling planet Jupiter—pairing glam, usefulness, and anything that features a memory from a place they’ve visited that they absolutely loved,” Benson says.

Filling their space with vintage and thrifted home decor that tells a story is something that every Sagittarius can get behind.

Capricorn (December 22-January 19): Transitional Style

Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign you can count on for being ambitious, loyal, hard working, and resilient. At the same time, the saying “work hard, play harder” certainly rings true, as they aren’t afraid to let loose and have a little (or a lot) of fun, too. They should channel design trends that embrace a similar duality, according to Benson.

“Transitional design that pairs new takes on classic design trends is perfect for this cardinal earth sign,” she says.

This effortlessly timeless style is all about marrying traditional and modern design elements in a way that feels seamless while still leaving room for individuality and self expression.

Aquarius (January 20-February 18): Sustainable Home Decor

Aquarius, the last air sign in the zodiac, are defined by their innovative, idealistic, progressive, and confident traits—often doing things their own way with a strong sense of morality and purpose. According to Benson, “anything embodying the futuristic, the sustainable, and the technological are hallmarks of the Aqua’s sense of design and style.”

For this reason, Aquarians are likely to be drawn to sustainable home decor this year, a large-scale trend that's impacting the design world in many ways. Adopting a trend like slow decorating, transitioning to smart tech in the home, or opting for eco-friendly materials allow Aquarians to embrace sustainable home decor.

Pisces (February 19-March 20): Coquette Aesthetic

As the final sign in the zodiac, Pisces are in touch with their dreams: They're intuitive, sensitive, emotional, and imaginative. This mutable water sign gravitates toward the spiritual realm and can be said to view the world through rose-tinted glasses.

When it comes to design, “the Pisces aesthetic is as much soulful as it is temporal—marrying soft, muted tones with unique yet grounded attention to detail,” Benson says.

As a sign that leans ethereal and romantic, the viral coquette aesthetic just makes sense. Think pastel tones, romantic details, whimsical accents, and more.
