The Dyson Purifier Cool TPO7 is the best Dyson air purifier overall. It actually functions as both an air purifier and a fan—and it has the added bonus of filtering pet hair. It’s not very wide (only eight inches in width), and stands around 3.4 feet high, with the cylindrical silver base and arched top that the Dyson bladeless fans are known for.
It took less than five minutes to set up, as the only step needed to get it in working order is to insert the filter. The filter is behind a set of vented doors at the base of the purifier, which was easy to open, albeit a little trickier to close.
This filter is a sealed HEPA H13 that keeps caught particles inside the machine, and the LCD screen at the base will notify the user when it’s time for a replacement. Keep in mind that the filter doesn’t remove VOCs from the air, which is a downside for the price.
The device can function as both a fan and an air purifier at the same time, but you have the ability to switch to a backwards airflow if you’d like to turn off the fan’s cooling properties. When in use, the noise level of the Dyson Purifier Cool is similar to the sound of a low fan.
During the pollutant test, PM2.5 numbers reduced drastically and at a fast pace. On low mode, PM2.5 numbers went from 999 to 115.2 after five minutes, and 8.0 after 10 minutes. On high, numbers went from 678 to 13.9 after five minutes, and 7.3 after 10 minutes. We were impressed by how quickly it cleared smoke from the air.
The air purifier can be controlled by remote or an app that connects to the device via WiFi. Both have similar functions, but the app also includes information like air quality readings over time and has voice control. It also has nice features like night mode, automatic mode, and a timer that can be scheduled up to eight hours at a time.
All in all, it’s a great machine with plenty of nice features—although those who aren’t looking for a fan might not utilize that function often.

The Dyson Purifier Humidify + Cool covers a smaller surface area than our top pick, but it’s the best Dyson air purifier that does triple duty: it purifies, humidifies, and cools. It’s similar in size to the best overall (albeit a few inches wider and shorter) and produces a similar amount of noise.
Set-up is quick, with doors that open and close to reveal the HEPA air filter. However, this one also detects and destroys formaldehydes, which the EPA defines as “one of the best known VOCs” that can be readily measured. However, it doesn’t filter out pet hair.
It works by drawing the pollutants and PM2.5’s out of the room, and then projecting that now purified, humidified air throughout the space. While the purifier and humidifier work in tandem, the fan can be turned on and off. You also have the option of choosing between direct cooling mode with up to 90 degree oscillation and breeze mode.
We were impressed by how quickly the machine purified the air, but it performed better on high mode. On low, the air went from 999.9 PM2.5s down to 120 after five minutes and 17.1 after 10 minutes. On low, the air went from 999.9 PM2.5s down to 12.3 after five minutes and 9.1 after 10 minutes.
As with most Dysons, the remote (which is magnetized to stay put on the device’s top) or app can be used to control the machine. An LCD screen reports air quality and humidity levels. Since this is also a humidifier, there is a water management system: when filled, the one-gallon tank produces up to 36 hours of humidification.
If you’d like to add a humidifier to your space in addition to a purifier—which the Mayo Clinic notes can help with the sinus issues and cracked lips that are associated with dry air—this is a great device to start. You will also find the expected features, like automatic mode (for both the purifier and the humidifier), night mode, and timers.

The best Dyson option for a large room is the Big + Quiet Formaldehyde BP04. It’s certainly true to its name: it’s quite large at 32 inches high and 17 inches wide, yet on its highest mode, it only produces 52.7 decibels of noise (akin to standard ambient room sounds).
It can detect and destroy formaldehyde, removes gas and odors, and reports carbon dioxide levels in real time. The brand also claims it captures three times the amount of nitrogen dioxide, which is what smog is commonly composed of.
The machine has 10 speed settings and oscillates 50 degrees to mimic the feeling of “refreshing air,” although unlike some other models on this list, it only functions as an air purifier and not a fan. You should note that it is a bit of an eye sore for some: it’s got a large circular blue top and a gold cylindrical base.
There are two filters in the Big + Quiet—the HEPA filter that will attract the PM2.5s like dust or pollen, and a K-Carbon filter that absorbs things like nitrogen dioxide, which can also be found in gas appliances and open flames. The LCD screen prompts users to ventilate the room if it senses an increase in carbon dioxide levels, and displays live results as well.
The purifier quickly turned the room from smoky and foggy to clear. It also made our nose and eyes stop burning. Pet hair, however, simply flew around the room. We were impressed with how quiet it was (almost silent, in fact) when turned on.
There’s the usual remote and app that provides the user with more in depth data, plus the typical auto, timer, and night settings that we see on other Dyson models. All in all, if pet hair is not the biggest concern for your larger space, this is likely the best device for you.

While it does reduce PM2.5s, some smells lingered during testing.
The Hot + Cool HP07 is smaller than other models on this list—only 5.1 inches in width and 2.5 feet tall—and is the quietest at 48.4 decibels on high. It purifies rooms up to 290 square feet, so it’s ultimately the best choice for smaller spaces like bedrooms or apartments.
It has the added bonus of functioning as both a fan and a heater. The device can oscillate up to 350 degrees and there are 10 fan speeds, which you can choose to turn to a backwards air flow to cease cooling functions. The heating mode heats the room up evenly while it is purifying the air.
The HEPA filter removes PM2.5 particles from the air, and the carbon air purifier filter removes odors and VOCs (although not formaldehyde like some of the other picks). As expected, there’s the LCD screen and app that reports real time data, a remote that magnetizes to the device, and several modes. The device notifies you when it’s time to replace the filter.
On the low setting, PM2.5 numbers were lowered 64.63% on average. On high setting, the numbers lowered 86.42% on average. While we didn’t notice a significant difference in odor immediately when re-entering the room there was a noticeable decrease in appearance as the accumulated smog dissipated.
The difficulty in removing odors might be because the test environment was larger than the recommended square footage. We think it would certainly function as a great all-in-one heater, fan, and purifier for a bedroom.
