The outer shell of this comforter is made of 90% nylon and 10% spandex, and it had a buttery-soft and smooth texture. We described it during testing as having a similar feel to a high-quality bathing suit.
While testing for its cooling ability, we found that it wasn’t necessary to seek out the coolest part of the comforter—the fabric remained cool to the touch consistently across the comforter, even while lying beneath it for five minutes.
We also liked that this comforter felt pillow soft and fluffy, even though it was very lightweight. We found that as we tossed, turned, and shook the comforter, the fill stayed put and did not move. This is because the synthetic fill was sewn through, which means that it has stitches that completely connect both sides of the comforter together (and therefore give the fill less room to travel).
Keep in mind that, after washing this comforter once, we found that, though it dried quickly and retained its shape, some of the filling bunched slightly on the outer edges, making us a bit worried about how it would withstand future washes.
How It Performed After Two Months
After two months of testing, this blanket improved our sleep routine. We loved the feel of the comforter and even though it was cooling, it still kept us warm when we needed it to. The blanket also washed well and even though we would have liked a better color selection, we would still recommend this option to family and friends.

The outer shell of this cooling comforter is made of 55% lyocell and 45% cotton, while the fill is made of 90% polyester (with a minimum of 80% of it being recycled) and 10% viscose. We found that this comforter is quite thin, so keep that in mind if you are looking for a comforter that has a higher level of fill.
We found that, for the purposes of cooling, its lightweight fill worked in its favor, but the thin, lightweight fill of this comforter may not be what some are looking for. The outer shell of the comforter was not too stiff and not too soft, which leads us to believe that it will not pill, but it will not become overly starchy either.
After washing and drying this comforter, we found that it came out feeling crisp and clean, with no imperfections in the fabric, no pilling, snagging, or wear and tear. We found that it fluffed up a bit during the washing process.
Keep in mind that, because it is so lightweight, we found that it moved around quite a bit while we tossed and turned, acting more as a blanket than a comforter.

The Ettitude Bamboo Comforter impressed us with its organic bamboo fill and its high-quality construction, as well as its ability to keep us at a comfortable temperature—not too warm, not too cold.
There are two options of weight for this comforter—summer or winter—and you can choose based on your preference or on the climate you live in. We found that, while this comforter looks rather thin, it did not feel unsubstantial when we tested it by lying beneath it. The weight was enough to keep us feeling cozy and covered, without making us feel overheated or restricted.
The comforter also felt soft and cool to the touch thanks to the comforter’s outer shell, which is made from 100% bamboo lyocell. After tossing and turning, we noticed that the fill, which is made of bamboo lyocell (which is known for being breathable) did not shift at all. This comforter is a vegan down alternative that is hypoallergenic and certified Standard 100 by OEKO-TEX, so it is free of harsh chemicals.

This option didn't hold a ton of heat while we used it and it was quiet even when we moved around, which was a welcomed change from the last comforter we were using.
Even though this pick is dry clean only, we washed it at home and didn't notice any major issues. Although we would have liked if this pick was a bit longer we still felt that we would recommend this pick.

For those looking for a comforter to use year round, we loved the Riley Down Alternative Comforter. After testing, we found it was lightweight and had a medium fill that still kept us feeling warm while a cotton outer shell helped keep us cool.
We liked that this comforter—which is made of 100% hypoallergenic microfiber—gave the feel of a down comforter. It has a medium loft of 1.5 inches thick, and the fill was evenly distributed throughout the comforter. We found that the fill remained intact while we tossed and turned in the bed, as well as when we shook the comforter.
The shell of this comforter is made of 100% cotton percale, which we noted was cool to the touch, soft, and smooth. We compared this comforter to a down comforter and found that, where down is very heavy and would leave us feeling too warm, this down alternative comforter felt perfect for hot sleepers.
We also liked that, after we machine washed this comforter, it still felt smooth, crisp, and cool to the touch, and that it did not lose any of its loft. The fill also remained uniform throughout and did not seem to be disturbed by the wash process.
However, after washing, this comforter’s outer shell was extremely wrinkled and might require some extra attention to make it presentable for your bedding.

The Buffy Breeze Comforter is filled with temperature-regulating eucalyptus lyocell fiber fill rather than polyester or down, and its outer shell is also eucalyptus lyocell. The material is not only cooling and comfortable, but also biodegradable and compostable. All of these features earned it our top spot for comforters with eucalyptus.
The fill did not shift at all after tossing and turning, nor did it move after shaking the comforter both vertically and horizontally. We were really impressed by this because the baffles of the insert are quite large, and so it would be easy for the fill to move around. We found the fill to be perfectly proportional throughout this comforter, which allowed it to be lightweight enough to be breathable and cooling, yet substantial enough to keep us at a comfortable warmth.
To determine the comforter’s breathability, we spent five minutes lying under it. While it was warming, we did not find it to be hot or uncomfortable. The first minute of testing beneath the comforter was spent warming up, but after that initial period, we did not find that it became stifling or too hot.
This comforter is dry clean only, so you won’t be able to wash it at home. To avoid the comforter becoming dirty between cleaning, you may want to use a duvet cover.
