It uses knobs in order to regulate the temperature, and these were very responsive, keeping the grill temperature consistent and steady. It was also simple to clean when we were finished—just use mild dish soap, warm water, and a grill brush.
We really liked the foldable side tables, which gave us the opportunity to store food and plates while we cooked. We also appreciated the hooks on the side of the foldable table, which could be used for hanging grilling tools.

After testing the Weber Genesis E-325s 3-Burner Gas Grill, we found that it’s well worth its price tag. It would also be an ideal grill for beginners because it was easy to assemble thanks to detailed instructions, and it was simple to attach the propane tank and ignite. We also appreciate that it’s available in three colors—black, copper, and stainless steel—so you can choose which best matches your backyard or patio style.
This grill has 787 square inches of total cooking area, which is enough to fit up to 20 burgers over three separate burners. The primary cooking area has 513 square inches of space, plus the top grate has 274 square inches.

The Weber Q1200 Liquid Propane Grill impressed us during testing, and we found it was reliable and consistent. With multiple ways to ignite, two foldable side tables, and a removable catch pan for oil, it is ideal for tailgating or camping.
When it comes to finding a portable grill, it’s important that it is simple to assemble and disassemble. We found that it only took around 12 minutes total to assemble this grill, and it was very simple to put together. Separate tools are required, but we found that it was a one person job and would be ideal for beginners.
With a 189 square inch cooking surface (enough to cook six burgers a time without crowding), we found this grill cooked both onions and burgers evenly across its surface, without any hot or cold spots.
That means heat was evenly distributed, and all of the food was finished cooking at the same time. The control knob on this portable grill has high, medium, and low cooking settings, which we found helpful throughout the cooking process.
However, we did note that the ambient thermometer on the lid of this portable grill was not quite accurate—it consistently had a 100°F difference from the wire probe that we used to determine temperature.

With four main burners, one stainless steel side burner, one ceramic sear side burner, and a whopping 723 square inches of total cooking space, we were big fans of the Monument Grills 4- Burner Propane Gas Grill. The grill’s cooking space is made up of 513 square inches of primary cooking space, plus a warming rack that is 210 square inches.
It also has two stainless steel side shelves that we found to be very sturdy, that could be used as prep space. Additionally, we loved the sear and side burners that could be used to cook side dishes or sear a steak. We felt that, for its affordable price, it’s the best pick for someone who loves to entertain outdoors.
While testing, we found that this grill was intuitive to ignite and use, and the knobs that control the burners were extremely responsive. The flame was able to easily change from high to low, which would be a useful feature for beginners.
As we tested this grill, we found that it did have some cold spots towards the front of the cooking area and hot spots towards the back, which lead to uneven charring and even some temperature differences when we cooked burgers. But because it had such a large cooking area and is relatively affordable, we found it to be one of the best propane grills we tested.

Four-burner grills have extra burners that help to make heat across the grilling area more consistent, but this grill does that with only two. The grates are non-stick and made of stainless steel, and are meant to prevent flare-ups, making grilling a worry-free experience.
It prevents flare-ups by creating a barrier between your food and the flames, which left our burgers and onions evenly cooked, with no accidental charring. Additionally, it uses an emitter plate to distribute even infrared heat to the food, which we found completely prevented hot or cold spots. During testing, we did note that the grates caught the fat and oils, which led to increased smoke while cooking.
On top of its ability to grill evenly, this grill also has an electronic ignition that made it simple to start with the push of a button. Additionally, it was very easy to assemble, and no additional tools were needed to put it together.
