The Beautyrest Latex Foam Bed Pillow earned top marks during our testing when it came to its support, durability, and comfort. With a loft of 6.75 inches, we found this pillow to be comfortable for both back and side sleepers, but particularly for side sleepers because it provided plenty of neck support.
Our enthusiasm for the Beautyrest Latex Foam Bed Pillow did not falter after six months of home testing. During our initial three-month trial we reached for this pillow nightly to serve as a base layer for another pillow. We found that pairing the lofty and firm Beautyrest with a soft down top pillow created an ideal lift to support back sleeping and aided in us falling asleep quicker than with previous pillows alone. We felt this pillow improved our sleep quality at the three-month mark, but by six months, we determined it encouraged us to fall asleep more quickly. If you find it difficult to relax or position your pillow “just so” to fall asleep, this may be an ideal fit for you.At the end of our six-month testing period, this continued to be our go-to pillow. It impressed us by retaining its original volume and softness despite nightly use. There were no signs of wear and tear or sagging, and we never needed to re-fluff the pillow to enjoy its shape.
However, the loft of this pillow left our neck stiff in the morning after side sleeping, so this may not be the best pillow for those who prefer or require a low loft pillow for comfortable side sleeping.
During our lab testing, we evaluated how supportive the pillow was by placing a 6-pound medicine ball onto its center, and we found that it only sank about an eighth of the way into the pillow. When we removed it, we saw that it bounced back immediately, leaving no indication of the medicine ball ever having been there.
After we put this latex pillow to the test by folding it vertically and horizontally, there was no indication that the pillow had been manipulated after we released it. This indicated that the pillow was both supportive and durable.
However, we did notice that the pillow felt warm after five minutes of use, so it may not be the best choice for those who tend to get hot at night. It comes in two sizes, standard and king, and it is made of Talalay latex.

If you’re looking to splurge on a premium sleeping experience, the Birch by Helix Organix Pillow has a higher price point than most other pillows on our list, but we loved that it is made with organic materials. We experienced the luxury of sleeping with the Birch by Helix Organix Pillow firsthand during our six-month product testing.During the initial three months of our evaluation, we enjoyed the softness and lofty profile the Birch pillow provided and felt happy with the head support we felt while side sleeping.
At the conclusion of our testing, we found that we reached for a different, low-profile pillow when side sleeping and preferred the height and plushness of the Birch pillow for providing neck support while back sleeping. The pillow was supportive for both sleep positions, and while we had moments of discomfort when side sleeping due to its height, we never experienced pain or stiffness as a result. After six months of continuous use, the Birch proved worth the investment for us as it remained as supportive as day one. The shredded latex filling maintained its fluff, and the pillow was free from any signs of damage, staining, or loose threads.
We would eagerly recommend this pillow to anyone interested in treating themselves to a latex pillow with a lifted profile and plush, adjustable fill that yields high-quality head and neck support. If you get your best beauty sleep on a firm or low-profile pillow, it may not be the best fit for you.
The filling of this pillow is natural Talalay latex, but it is not a solid block of latex—it has a crushed core that makes it malleable and comfortable, no matter what type of sleeper you are. We loved this feature because it made it possible to sleep on both our backs and our sides. We felt that this pillow is as luxurious as a down pillow, and just as soft and comfortable, while still remaining sturdy and supportive.
We were impressed when we tested this pillow using a medicine ball, and watched it cradle the 6-pound object. 14 seconds after removing the ball, it returned to its original form and its loft of 7 inches.
Keep in mind that this pillow is covered in natural birch wool and, while the material is organic, we found that the pillow was warmer and less breathable due to the material.

This pillow is slightly longer than a standard pillow—it’s 27.5 inches long and a standard pillow is 26 inches.
After testing, we found that the most comfortable latex pillow for side sleeping is the Buffy Breeze Pillow. It’s made of premium materials and it has appropriate loft and support.
After testing the Buffy Breeze Pillow for six months, we found that this pillow exceeded our expectations and provided transformative sleep quality. Within the initial three months of testing, our prior neck, shoulder, and back pain melted away and resulted in us feeling refreshed each morning.Throughout our testing period, we appreciated the durability and shape retention of this pillow. The original shape of the pillow remained unchanged despite our continuous use. The Buffy Breeze pillow stood out from its peers for its versatility, too.
We reached for this latex pillow to elevate our hamstrings at night, prop us up to watch television, or create a cozy barrier to keep little ones tucked safely in bed during naps. We also appreciated that this pillow didn’t retain odor, and it maintained smelling fresh throughout our long-term testing. We continued to use this pillow daily for the entire six months. With only positive things to say about this pillow, we feel confident recommending it to side sleepers due to its high-quality materials, versatility, and lasting durability.
The filing of the Buffy Breeze Pillow is made of 93% natural latex and 7% synthetic foam, and we found it to be incredibly supportive and durable. When we placed the medicine ball atop the pillow, it barely sank into the material, and it instantly returned to its original shape when the medicine ball was removed.
It has a 5.5 inch loft, which makes it suitable for side sleepers, who Wang advises use latex pillows between 5 and 7 inches thick. Its machine-washable cover is made of Tencel lyocell fiber, which helps to keep you cool and dry by absorbing moisture more efficiently than cotton.

Adjustable latex pillows are the best latex pillow for those who want the support and breathability of a traditional latex pillow, but with the option to change things up and completely customize according to their comfort. Oftentimes, adjustable latex pillows will be made with shredded natural latex, so you can remove or add the filling back in as desired. After testing, our favorite adjustable pillow is the Plush Beds Shredded Latex Pillow.
From the beginning of our test period, we quickly determined this pillow was ideal for those who prefer a firm pillow. We found the high loft and density to be the very qualities that made this pillow an unparalleled base for softer, low-profile pillows we already owned. The pillow retained its original loft during the final three months of testing, and the smell of latex disappeared over time. We continued to lounge with this pillow nightly while watching television or reading, and we noticed that the pillow felt broken in and more receptive to our adjustments.
The once towering pillow settled without flattening, making it more enjoyable to sleep on during the night than the initial three months of testing. In the end, this latex pillow proved to be a solid option for someone searching for a dense, lofty pillow to support their neck. Keep in mind that it required several months to break in to reach a comfortable malleability for use as a primary pillow
The pillow has a 7.25 inch loft, so it was easy to remove some filling and create a custom fit. It was also simple to remove the fill for this pillow, but keep in mind that if you’re hoping to keep some to potentially add back in, you’ll need to find a bag to store it as it can make a bit of a mess.
We found that, when testing its breathability, the pillow kept its cool and did not warm up too much to make us uncomfortable. Unlike the non-adjustable latex pillows on this list, this pillow did not bounce back to its original shape after testing with a medicine ball or laying on it. It required some fluffing after use.

Because this pillow has extra support at the center, we found during testing that it puts a lot of pressure on the ear while side sleeping.
Talalay latex is a natural latex that is breathable, soft, and springy. Our favorite Talalay latex pillow after testing is the Malouf Z 100% Natural Talalay Latex Zoned Pillow. It’s supportive, breathable, and naturally hypoallergenic. It’s also resistant to mold, mildew, and dust mites.
What makes this pillow different from the other Talalay latex pillows on this list is its zoned technology. This pillow has different zones—the center of the pillow is more concentrated and has more support, while the edges are less concentrated and have less support.
We brought the home and gave it a test run for six months. Our initial impression of this pillow was largely positive. We loved the shape retention and support it gave us during the first three months of testing so much so that we used it to replace our long-trusted memory foam pillow. The honeycomb design provided exceptional temperature regulation and maintained its cool and comfortable feeling throughout the night. Our sleep quality saw improvement during this time, too, and we found it was much easier to find a comfortable position to drift off to sleep. This aspect was especially beneficial when we tested the pillow with a CPAP machine, which often makes it more challenging to find a restful position without interfering with the mask. Our enthusiasm dimmed over the final three months of testing. While we still found the pillow comfortable, it began losing shape and springiness after using it for half a year. We continued sleeping with the pillow daily but felt compelled to add a few other pillows in order to feel fully supported throughout the night.
For this reason, we reserve our recommendation for this pillow for those who don’t mind replacing it periodically or plan to supplement with additional pillows for maximum support.
In the lab, we found that the pillow was naturally springy, returning to its natural shape immediately after applying force, whether while folding or testing with a medicine ball. Keep in mind that this made the pillow we tested very firm, and we found that side sleeping was not as comfortable on this pillow.
This pillow is available in queen or king size, and it comes in four loft options: high loft firm, low loft firm, low loft plush, and high loft plush. With all of these choices, it’s easy to customize based on your sleeping position and preferences.

Contour pillows have a little dip in the pillow for added support to your neck and spine while you sleep—it mirrors the curve of your neck, and your head rests in the hollow dip. The Company Store Contour Support Latex Pillow impressed us with its design, breathability, and support.
During our long-term testing, we found that this pillow was made for back sleepers and lived up to its claims of superior firmness and head contour. It cradled the neck nicely, and its shape remained unchanged throughout the duration of our home testing.Side sleepers and stomach sleepers were less lucky with this pillow. They found the unyielding firmness this pillow offered to be more of a hindrance than a help, making it difficult for them to slip an arm under the pillow comfortably while sleeping. We would recommend this pillow for anyone seeking a high-quality, ultra-firm pillow with built-in structure. That said, we do not feel side or stomach sleeper would find restorative sleep using this as their primary pillow.
It easily supported a 6-pound medicine ball, and we noticed that that ball sat about a quarter of the way into the pillow, but the pillow did not conform around the ball. Rather, it sat atop the pillow, supporting the weight. When we removed the ball, the pillow immediately returned to its original shape.
We also liked the textured surface, which provided even more comfort. It also comes with two covers, a 100% polyester knit and a moisture-wicking cover. This let us choose between a traditional cover or one that kept us cool and dry. When we tested the pillow’s breathability, we found that the pillow did not get overly warm after laying on it for five minutes.
Keep in mind that the loft of this pillow is just 4.75 inches, so side sleepers may have a hard time getting comfortable since they need a higher loft.

The Organic Textiles Natural Latex Pillow is our pick for the best organic latex pillow because it is made of 100% natural Talalay latex that is both Global Organic Textile and Global Organic Latex Standard certified. Its cover is also made from 100% organic cotton.
Not only is natural latex breathable and hypoallergenic, it’s also sustainable because it is “made from a renewable resource, tree sap, whereas standard foam is extruded from petroleum,” Wang explains. They’re also naturally degradable.
We love that it is available in four different firmness settings: extra soft, soft, medium, and firm. It also comes in standard, queen, and king size. All of these options mean that you get to customize your sleeping experience.
We found this pillow was well worth the hype during our six-month testing period. Our experience was overwhelmingly positive, and after our one snooze, we began reaching it and using it as our primary pillow every night. Our sleep quality improved during our six-month testing, too. It provided optimal neck support throughout the night and minimized wakeups throughout the night, yielding restful and restorative sleep.
Its shape was reliable throughout the six months, so we never needed to adjust to find the perfect position in order to get comfortable. Plus, we appreciated how the washable slipcover provided an extra layer of cleanliness and protection to the pillow over time.By the end of six months, we had no complaints. We felt impressed and happy with the quality of our sleep and the durability of the pillow itself. The only drawback of this pillow is the price, but with our improved sleep quality, we found it was worth its weight in gold. In the lab, we found it to be breathable, supportive, and durable. It regained its original shape immediately after any manipulation, and it bounced back instantly after the medicine ball test. We did notice it was a bit springier than other pillows we tested, so it may be uncomfortable for some.
