The Famous Target Birds Are Dressed in the Cutest Halloween Costumes This Year

The internet-famous Target birds are setting up a spooky scene at Target stores: Here's what to know about these beloved birds ahead of Halloween this year.

Like the rest of the internet, we’re obsessed with all of the collectible fabric Target birds but the Halloween lineups (part of the Hyde and EEK! Boutique) may be the best flocks of them all. This year, they're showing up to the costume party as ghosts, Frankenstein, princesses, and more.

This Year’s Designs

Previously, Target has released birds resembling witches or other spooky fowl. For this collection, they all seem to be ready for a night trick-or-treating, and you have plenty of different outfits to choose from: There’s a ghost bird, the bride of Frankenstein bird, a vampire bird, and more.

In a TikTok posted by @halloweenandpajamas rounding up all the costumes, the creator couldn't quite figure out what the bird dressed in a top hat and bow tie was supposed to be—and others also had questions about his attire, too. "Is it like a Jackyll and Hyde thing?" she asked in the video. "He's just in a suit." A user in the comments had the idea that he could be Edgar Allen Poe, which would also explain another semi-confusing bird that's dressed as a raven.

How Did These Birds Become So Famous?

Spritz, a Target-owned line of party supplies and home decor products, started making the little stuffed birdies with felt decorations and outfits for seasonal and holiday decorating. Consumers fell in love with the adorable figures and demanded more, which consistently led to them selling out online and in stores.

It’s unclear what exactly draws shoppers to these tiny, felt-feathered friends; the lovable birds make affordable and interesting pieces to display, but so do plenty of other holiday decorative items. Maybe it's the need to have the newest version or collection that launches each holiday—the frequent new designs mean they’re not only collectible, but it also makes them limited editions that sell out fast. To make them even more endearing, each bird also has its own name tag.

Allison Grant has her own collection of about 30 of the sweet figurines. Grant told The Spruce that she and her mom work together every season to ensure they secure the limited edition collection of birds.

“I never miss out on them,” she said. “My mom is in another state, and if one of us finds them we get them for each other and ship them, it’s kind of a fun thing for us to do together from far away, too.”

All of this year's Halloween birds are unfortunately sold out online—but you might still be able to snag one in stores.

While the birds go for $5 or, if you’re lucky, $3.50, they’re only that price when sold at Target. If you buy them for resale, the cost goes up: Individually, the resale value is about $30, but if you want to buy an entire collection of the Halloween birds on eBay, it could easily total than $200.
