The Latest Drop from IKEA’s Nostalgia-Fueled Collection Is Absolutely Filled with Florals

IKEA's 80th-anniversary Nytillverkad collection introduces vibrant floral designs, including a revamped ÖNNESTAD armchair, alongside duvet cover sets, pillows, fabrics for DIY projects, vases, lampshades, rattan armchairs, and more, available in stores and online from April 2024.

If there’s one thing that never disappoints, it’s a thoughtfully made piece of furniture that lasts a long time—and doesn’t break the bank. The lasting appeal of affordable, well-made furniture is one of many reasons everyone is always clamoring over vintage IKEA pieces, and why IKEA has continued to bring back fan-favorite designs from its archive, reimagined to fit into contemporary homes, via its Nytillverkad collection.

The home furnishings retailer has already dropped three releases as part of its 80-year anniversary Nytillverkad collection, all stuffed with bold, vibrant designs inspired by the ’70s and ’80s. Now, IKEA has launched the fourth set of furnishings, and it’s absolutely filled with florals celebrating the flower power aesthetic of the ’60s and ’70s.

“We are excited to bring back these beloved designs and introduce them to a new generation of customers,” Karin Gustavsson, the creative leader of the Nytillverkad collection, said in a press release. “With the new colourful and bold edition of products, we hope to inspire creative experiments, courage, and positivity in homes around the world.”

The products were developed by designers Gillis Lundgren, Charlotte Rude, Hjördis Olsson-Une, and Göta Trägårdh, and were inspired by “the spirit of optimism,” according to IKEA. Of course, florals were front and center of the inspiration, too.

The collection includes a redesign of the beloved GOGO easy chair from 1972, which is being rereleased as the ÖNNESTAD armchair in red and green. One of the biggest differences between the two is that the new chair is made with high-strength steel instead of standard steel, meaning there’s a lot less steel for a chair of the same size—both an environmental and practical win.

”We went from 15 lbs steel to 7 1/4 lbs, giving us twice as many armchairs for the same amount of material,” Håkan Käll, the Material and Innovation Developer at IKEA of Sweden, said of the change in a statement. Rude, one of the designers behind the ÖNNESTAD armchair, said they intended to create a piece that was “colorful, soft, and comfortable.”

The collection, which consists of 19 fresh items, also features the relaunch of a beautiful floral duvet cover set in yellow or orange, pillows and cushions in the same floral pattern, pre-cut fabric for your favorite DIY projects, vases that look beautiful with or without flowers in them, a sleek pendant lampshade, a beloved lightweight rattan armchair, classic mirrors, a cute and practical end table, a plant stand, and more.

You can start shopping for every single one of those pieces as part of the fourth launch of the Nytillverkad collection at IKEA stores globally and online starting in April 2024.
