In 2022, Spritz Society posted an April Fool's prank on its Instagram announcing it had added a pickle-flavored spritzer to its selection—but the joke was on them when followers were intrigued by the idea.
"I'll order an unlimited amount, plz actually do it," one pickle lover said. "The way I gasped out loud in excitement before remembering what today is," requested another.
So, in July 2023, Spritz Society and Claussen, the top-selling refrigerated pickle brand, partnered to bring an actual pickle spritzer to customers, and it was a sour-flavored success, selling out in 72 hours. Now, the Spritz Society Pickle is back to satisfy the puckered-up cravings of pickle fans.
"After getting into the beverage space for the first time last summer, we were so excited to see the response from fans around the Spritz Society Pickle by Claussen," Caroline Sheehey, brand manager for Claussen, said in a press release. "To continue to answer the call of pickle enthusiasts everywhere, we are partnering with Spritz Society to bring back the delicious sparkling wine cocktail, this time in a bigger 12-ounce can. Perfect as the weather gets warmer and summer is just around the corner."
Spritz Society Pickle is right on trend, with a rise in savory cocktails and spritzes being ordered at bars and speakeasies everywhere. Think Dirty Martinis; fancy, veggie-loaded Bloody Marys at brunch; or our own Test Kitchen creation, the ever-refreshing Tomato-Basil Spritz. Plus, pickles have held their own as a topping of choice for adventurous eaters who can't get enough of the briny goodness.
Spritz Society Pickle keeps its ingredients quite simple: white wine, sparkling water, pure white vinegar, cane sugar, natural flavor, sodium citrate, fruit and vegetable juices (color). The alcohol content is just 6% ABV (alcohol by volume).
Taste testers of the pickle-y pick-me-up left reviews that agree that the slight sourness of the pickle and vinegar complements the sweetness of the white wine and sugar.
As one reporter wrote last year on TastingTable.com, "It works harmoniously with the other flavors, resulting in a well-balanced blend of sweet and sour, tart and tangy. This drink offers an unexpected but ultimately pleasing confluence of taste sensations—a true testament to its creative ingenuity."
Another review from Parade recommends letting the cans get frosty cold before drinking to fully enjoy the pickleness.
Spritz Society Pickle would make a tasty accompaniment to grilled hot dogs and burgers slathered in mustard, ketchup, and—of course—pickles. Starting May 1 at SpritzSociety.com, you can order yours for a limited time for $25 for a pack of four. While you're there, check out their seven other (sweet) flavors, available in variety packs or single-flavor assortments.
