Use This Herb to Put a Christmas Tree In Your Holiday Party Drink

Add a festive flurry to your cocktail hour.

Skeptics will say that it’s only October, but who can argue that it's too early to experiment with festive drinks before holiday party season? (No one can side eye you for being prepared.)

There’s a simple trend taking over TikTok for you pages and popping up on Instagram Reels pages that adds a creative touch—putting a little Christmas tree in your drink. To accomplish the presentation of this themed beverage, you’ll only need a sprig of rosemary, a clear glass, some string, and your favorite cocktail or mocktail recipe (although the clearer, the better.)

TikTok creator @colettescocktails posted a video that's received over 555,000 views and 47,500 likes, showing users exactly how to make it.

“Not even sorry that I’m already thinking about Christmas,” she wrote in the caption. “This is the cutest and most fun way to elevate a xmas drink!!!”

First, tie a string or some ribbon around the top of a rosemary sprig. You’ll want both ends to be long enough to stretch past the edge of your glass. Place your rosemary in the center of the glass, and tape the strings on the sides of the outside of the glass so it stands up straight.

Once you have your rosemary in place, pour in a bit of your choice of liquid and stick it in the freezer for a couple hours. This will keep the sprig standing tall and serve as ice for your beverage (sorry, no booze for this step). You don't want to fill the glass too high—just about 1 to 2 inches. The creator used water mixed with coconut syrup to give it a snowy appearance.

Once you take it out of the freezer, gently remove the string, and you’ve got a cute Christmas tree. To finish it off, she filled the rest of the glass with club soda, but you could use La Croix or another bubbly beverage to make it extra magical. Or mix in your favorite holiday drink for your dinner party cocktail hour: Try a version of lemonade, mint julep, spritz, or white wine sangria to get the clear, transparent look.

“It’s so cute. Merry Christmas,” @colettescocktails said. “And I know it’s only October. Don’t come after me."
